Antigone

In AntigoneAntigone’s and Ismene’s brothers died, and both argue about what should be done to Polynices’ dead body. I agree with Antigone instead of Ismene. Frankly, I don’t agree with Creon’s new law at all. Although Ismene seems like the sensible sister and Antigone seems like someone who needs to calm down, Polynices is still their brother and Antigone has every right to bury her brother. The new law passed down by Creon is ridiculous and shouldn’t prevent Antigone from doing what should be done to a dead body. Ismene, from my point of view, is too anxious and scared to stand up for her sister and brother even though she should have in situations like this. Antigone, on the other hand, is willing to even “tell the world” about what she was about to do(Line 101). Now that statement would naturally cause Ismene to refuse even further even though she wants to help because her brother’s not able to be buried, and that’s why I chose Antigone over Ismene. But surprisingly, I identify myself more with Ismene because of her sensibility, maturity(I do admit I am a wee bit mature), and caution. But I am also not as cautious as Ismene. She just too cautious to the point where she is unable to decide on anything and not take any risk. I tend to analyze, sometimes over analyze things before I “tread my feet on the thin ice.” As much as I admit being more similar to Ismene, I just can’t help but feel frustrated at Ismene for not siding with Antigone regarding the burial of Polynices. Ismene might blame herself for not supporting Antigone’s decision if her sister actually dies.
